From August 20 to September 10, 2018 Wildlife Without Borders experts Sanzhar Kantarbayev and Maxim Bespalov took part in a scientific expedition to study snow leopard on the territory of Russian Federation. The research on snow leopard protection in the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion was conducted in cooperation with WWF-Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expedition to the border of Russia and Mongolia, to the area of M\u00f6nkh Saridag, the highest peak of Eastern Sayan (3491 m), was led by an experienced Russian zoologist Sergey Malykh. During 12 days, the team walked about 100 km, along axial ridges in the area of Lake Kh\u00f6vsg\u00f6l and the valleys of the Sredny Irkut, Bely Irkut, Johoi, Khore, Maly and Bolshoi Butu-Gol rivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main objective of the field work was the installation of camera traps in the area of snow leopard\u2019s marking, even though finding signs of snow leopard\u2019s life activities in the summer (snowless) period is never easy. The young specialists of Wildlife Without Borders have gained an invaluable experience in studying snow leopard which will be useful in Kazakhstan.
