Wildlife Without Borders experts took part in the Consultative Meeting on Transboundary Cooperation in Protection of Snow Leopard Ecosystems, which was held in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan, July 16-20, 2018. The meeting brought together leading snow leopard experts from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and representatives of international organizations such as GSLEP, GEF, UNDP, SLT, SLF, Panthera, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this meeting was to enhance cooperation with Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP) in strengthening regional cooperation on snow leopard landscapes in the Western Tien Shan and Pamir-Alai (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan). Uzbekistan has proposed and nominated the 24th GSLEP transboundary landscape \u2013 \u201cWestern Tien Shan\u201d!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, topical issues of transboundary protection of snow leopard, including the fight against poaching and illegal wildlife trade, protected areas and management plans, were discussed. As a result of the meeting, a draft Agreement and a Work Program on Transboundary Cooperation were prepared. Scientists from 4 countries made their reports on conducting research followed by discussion. A representative from the Institute of Zoology, Alexey Grachev, made a presentation \u201cExperience of monitoring the snow leopard in Kazakhstan\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the final days of the meeting, the Chatkal Biosphere Reserve and the Ugam-Chatkal National Park were visited.
